Sustainably Cultivated in Otter Creek, WI

We’re here to help you eat all your vegetables and it’s gonna be fun!

Our names are Taya and Seamus Sweet. We grow high quality, fresh vegetables with ecologically centered practices on just 2 acres north of Menomonie, WI. You might recognize us from our days as owners and operators of an urban farm called Growing Lots in Minneapolis, MN. In the last several years we made the big leap from our small leased city lots to an acreage in the hills of Western Wisconsin. We are beyond elated and proud to continue growing high quality, fresh and healthy vegetables for our community at a large.

You’ve got questions,
we’ve got answers

  • Our CSA season runs for 20 weeks from June-October.

Markets begin sometime early May and typically end Early November

  • We grow a large variety of veggies and are always honing what works best in our region along with what our customers enjoying eating. Here is basic break down through a typical growing season.

    Spring: May-June

Lots of fresh salad and hardy greens like lettuces, arugula, mustard, kale, chard, collards. Cold hardy roots and herbs like cilantro, parsley, dill, carrots, radishes, salad turnips, beets and peas.

    Summer: June-August

Alot of the same things as spring but summer squash, cucumbers, fresh onions, green beans, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and warmer weather herbs like basil and celery flood in.

    Autumn: August-October

We call this “Heavy Season” and personally love how you get the last delicious fruits of summer mixed in with hardy storage crops like carrots, beets, celeriac, parnsips, sweet potatoes, winter radishes and frost sweetened hardy greens like kale and chard.

We also take great pleasure in foraging through the seasons on our uncultivated land and incorporate this bounty into our mix as fit. We enjoy introducing people to and teaching how to enjoy wild foods as much as the cultivated veggies.

  • We currently practice low till, meaning we are extremely judicious as to when to till ground and employ no-till methods a majority of the time. This helps us build up our organic matter and thus reduce erosion, runoff and improve nutrient retention.

We are not currently certified organic. We are looking towards that certification in the coming couple of years. We’ve been very focused on setting up our new farm site the last two seasons and integrating into our new community first. That does not mean we don’t adhere to organic practices! We value the health of our community, water, soil and ecosystems and do not use any practices not allowed by organic standards. We are always happy to talk further about our practices and invite people to see first hand what it is we do. Our guiding value for how we farm is right relationship; to land, to soil, to water, to the flora and fauna that call this place home and to our fellow humans.

  • We’ve been farming a combined 20+ years between the two of us! Dang, time flies.

Yes! We ran Growing Lots Urban Farm in Minneapolis for 7 years before making the big move out to western Wisconsin in 2023. We finally settled on Sweet’s Produce as our name after a few seasons of workshopping names and living and growing here.
